Does anyone have any idea how to display DICOM images on iPad, or any supporting format for displaying it directly? Do I need to go for conversion? Any idea or any thoughts or at least any help!!!

The Osirix DICOM Viewer displays images on the Mac OS and iOS for iPhone/iPad here on the App store. Keep in mind that the Free versions of Osirix and the iPhone version are not FDA-approved medical devices.
There is also the eFilm Mobile platform put out by Merge Healthcare. TIMS Mobile DICOM and I believe WebPax also put out iOS DICOM readers.
So, yes, it is possible. You will have to have something that reads the meta-data from the DICOM image and displays the JPEG or other image in the file. I know of no open-source platform-agnostic framework that will load those files for you.

You could always use Citrix Receiver with your current PACS solution. Though not native viewing of DICOM images on the iPad it serves a good purpose.

@arc - sounds like your having the same trouble as I am. I was originally battling with a papyrus set of code to display, but have now been advised to use the DCMFramework from the Osirix source code. I need to locally view Dicom images on my iPad at work... It would save me bucket loads of time and keep my clients well informed in the consult room. Have you had any luck just isolating the Dicom viewer. Additional thoughts etc would be much appreciated.
Rick.
Have also been looking at this to read metadata:
