I want to hide the drive from user with Diskpart Command-Line Utility . I use remove letter command and the drive becomes hidden . But I want to use the data of that drive for example in my program written in C . How I can do this or is it possible ? I want to do this only for usb flash drives . If it is not possible please give me another approach to do this correctly ? Thanks a lot , good luck . You can use the volume GUID like this: \\?\Volume{2a0b16cf-f76a-11df-9310-806e6f6e6963}\path\file.ext Note that only the Unicode file functions will accept this sort of path, and the syntax has to be

How to run Git 1.6.x for Windows from a USB memory stick

问题 I would like to run Git 1.6.x for Windows from a USB memory stick. There is a Windows version of Git available at: http://code.google.com/p/msysgit/ Installing and running it from the local harddisk c:\ was absolutely no problem. However, I was not able to find out how it can be run from a USB memory stick. This post suggests that one can just take the binaries from c:\ and copy them to a USB memory stick. The points I don't understand are: One can set global settings for Git such as one's

How restrict an application to run only from a known USB flash drive?

I need an application to run only from a specific USB flash drive. I made some test with the WMI Win32_Diskdrive class and the PNPdeviceID property. It is a very good idea to enroll the application into a license server (web services) with this data, but I'm searching for a second method to reenforce this one in order to make the process harder to break. I was thinking to create a second little hidden partition in the drive and locate in it as a name the serial obteined by the PNPdeviceID or other information. Any other idea, method or suggestion is accepted. Thanks in advance. EDIT: I already

Where is g_multi configured in BeagleBone Black?

With the default Debian installation in a BeableBone Black you can access it via USB as different devices: mass storage device, virtual ethernet and virtual serial uart. This is accomplished with the g_multi module. You can review its configuration via files in /sys/module/g_multi/parameters/ . I am trying to use it only as a mass storage device but with other disk/block device, not the second partition in the boot block device. I have checked that it is always the same partition not matter if it is /dev/mmcblk1p2 (when I have a microSD inserted on boot) or /dev/mmcblk0p2 (without it). I have

WinAPI calls to access USB storage which has no drive letter?

I've noticed, that some USB storage devices don't register in Windows as regular drives, in that they don't even get assigned a drive letter. Therefore, I can't apparently access them using the standard file operations C API. What are the WinAPI calls I can use to do some normal file operations on those strange devices - so: find/enumerate those devices at all, browse the file/directory tree on the device and get some file stats (size, modification date, etc.), read/write contents of the files, create/delete files/directories? Also, what are the general keywords by which those kinds devices

Detecting USB Connection — C# .Net CF 3.5

I have an application (.Net Compact Framework 3.5) running on a Windows Mobile 6.1 device and I want to detect when the USB connection changes (either something connects or disconnects). I was originally using the SystemProperty.CradlePresent property to trigger an event but I am wondering if this only works if the device connecting has ActiveSync? I will be receiving a connection via USB from a Linux device that does not have ActiveSync running on it. Can I still use SystemProperty.CradlePresent to detect the connect/disconnect from the USB? Or do I need to explore other options to detect the

问题 Is there a way to read USB device serial number and data in a text file in USB using visual studio 2005? 回答1: Try this: USBSerialNumber usb = new USBSerialNumber(); string serial = usb.getSerialNumberFromDriveLetter("f:\"); MessageBox.Show(serial); Here's the internals for the USBSerialNumber class: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.Management; namespace USBDriveSerialNumber { public class USBSerialNumber { string _serialNumber; string

How to perform low-level IO with a USB flash drive under the BIOS (compared to a floppy)?

I have recently been studying some bootstrap code which was intended for use with a floppy drive. My goal is to modify the program so that it uses my USB flash drive. Now I see how the INT 13H function has been used with the floppy device, but I guess my question is, how will communicating with the USB drive differ? For example, here is a snippet of the floppy code (GNU assembler): movb $0x00,%dl /* select 1st floppy */ /* later */ movw sec,%cx /* get sector number */ movw head,%dx /* get head number */ movw $0x0201,%ax /* read 1 sector */ int $0x13 Now I have read that moving 0x80 into %dl

How to identify UNIQUELY a USB Device?

Is it possible to identify a USB device by a unique identifier like an Operating system has Mac-ID, Harddisk ID, Ethernet card ID has unique identifiers? I know one can easily change the volume serial number of USB partition or it could be changed when user Formats it. But is there an ID some kind of 'USB Harddisk ID or USB Hardware ID' which could be retrieved via MFC's (Visual C++ or C#) using the WMI Service? Will such an identifier be unique to the physical device? Kindly clarify... The closest equivalent of a "unique number" available in any USB device is the VID and PID, the vendor and
