Pronounce “DoIT” as “do it” for screen readers and the visually impaired

问题 I'm working on an interesting problem and would like some input. The problem is thus: I'm working on a website that uses an acronym across the board ("DoIT", pronounced "do it"). Unfortunately, screen readers for the visually impaired read the acronym wrong ("duh-I.T."). I'm thinking there are one of two solutions: find every element ever across the website (HTML5) that uses "DoIT" and somehow add something that says to the screen reader to not read the displayed text but an alternative text

How can I override a screen-reader's pronunciation of a word in a sentence without having it pause mid-sentence?

问题 Let's say I have the following sentence in HTML: <p>Please enter your licence number</p> The screen-reader mis-pronounces the word 'licence' as "liss-ens" (phonetic spelling). It should be pronounced "lice-ens" (phonetic spelling). I want to fix this by providing a phonetic spelling to the screen-reader, while having the text visually appear the same. I could use <span> s, aria- attributes and styling as follows: <p>Please enter your <span aria-hidden="true">licence</span><span style=

问题 On mouse-over on an image in IE browser, the NVDA screen reader reads the entire source of the image file along with alt text and title, for example: Smiley http://blog.smiley.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/High-Res-image.jpg How do I avoid this from happening? I want the screen reader to read only the alt text and title. 来源: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/30796844/nvda-reader-reads-the-source-of-an-image-in-img-tag-in-ie-browser-only

问题 I have a icon which is not decorative, and it is not directly within an interactive element, though there is an interactive element in the hierarchy. Something like this: <button type="button"> <div> Some info </div> <div> other info </div> <i class="material-icons"> icon </i> </button> This icon displays information about the status of this item. To make it more accessible, is it better to change the structure to this: <button type="button"> <div> Some info </div> <div> other info </div>

I have an application that contains custom WPF Windows that are used to show a popup similar to the Win32 MessageBox. As part of the requirements the application must be accessible through Screen Readers, and specifically JAWS. I have had problems getting the screen reader to read out the text in the dialog, but it will read the values in the buttons ok. The code in the XAML is as follows <Window x:Class="UserControls.ModalDialog" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org

How to test Aural style sheets / CSS3 speech?

问题 I was snooping through a websites code and noticed their use of @media aural {} - which reminded me of its existence. So, I thought I would play around...but then realised that I don't know how to test them. I don't want my website to sound like the Schwarzeneggers having Christmas dinner…. How could I test out aural or speech through a browser to make sure it sounds ok? Jaws 16 not reading “alert” role in IE 11

问题 We are facing an issue with Jaws 16 and IE 11. We have some tooltips on the web page where we have assigned role as "alert" so that when JAWS reads it it will will first announce 'alert' and then reads the text. It was working fine for JAWS 15 with IE 11. Now Jaws has released version 16 and we have upgraded to that version due to that it is not announcing the 'alert' when tooltip comes in IE 11. This working perfectly fine with Fire Fox. Is there any issue with JAWS 16 with IE? 回答1: JAWS 16

Appropriate way to hide icons from screen readers

问题 In my web application, I have made myself a font that consists solely of icons. I use these icons to complement titles and sub titles within the application and make it more visually appealing. However, screen readers like JAWS read this out and it makes for an unpleasant experience for users of screen readers. For instance the character c displays an image of a cloud. I use it in this way to complement for instance a header such as <h1> : <span class="my-font">c</span> Now I would like for

Pausing in a screen reader for accessibility

问题 I have been using the Mac OSX's built in screen-reader for testing my site, I know it's not the best but it's all I have for now. But I'm finding it isn't pausing at the end of elements... which makes sense; but I'm finding myself placing hidden periods to make things readable: <div class="breakdown"> <strong>35</strong> New<span class="visuallyhidden">.</span><br> <strong>4</strong> Overdue<span class="visuallyhidden">.</span> </div> I feel really dirty doing this, but if I dont then either
