#通过Android源代码分析startActivity()过程(上)
一 概述
在Android中,我们去调用startActivit()来启动一个Activity,经过复杂的代码跳转后,最终是由ActivityManagerService(简称ams,下同)来真正的打开一个应用的Activity的。
由于ams运行在system_server进程中,所以普通的app进程与ams进行通信,就涉及到跨进程通信的问题,这种情况下的跨进程,Android采用的Binder机制,通过AIDL来实现,如果对这个不了解,可以参考前一篇关于AIDL的博文,如果你对这个了解了,下面我们将要分析到的代码逻辑,你会觉得似曾相识。
在startActivit()的整个过程,可以分为两部分来理解:
- app进程去调用位于system_server进程中的ams
startActivit()会调用ams去启动app的入口Activity,如果ams发现这个app进程未启动,则会由于zygote进程fork出一个新的进程出来,然后在启动这个 app进程的ActivityThread main()方法。
- 位于system_server进程中的ams去调用app进程
新启动的app进程,在其ActivityThread main()方法种,会将自己和 system_server进程中的ams绑定在一起,这样ams就会在特定的时机去回调app进程中Activity的生命周期方法。
二 UML图
如果理解了Android的Binder机制,我们就会知道,app进程去调用system_server进程中的ams,是通过Binder调用实现的,所以app进程中必然会保留一个ams的IBinder,也就是一个代理。
同样,system_server进程中的ams去调用app进程,同样也会在ams进程中保留一个app进程的IBinder,也就是一个代理。
通过阅读源码,我们可以参照考前一篇关于AIDL的博文中的UML图,画出这两部分的UML图,这也是一个典型的代理模式,我们把这两部分的UML通前一篇文章中的UML图比较一下,架构基本一模一样。
1.app进程调用ams过程中用到的类UML图
其中,ActivityManagerProxy是ActivityManagerService在普通app进程中的代理,app进程不会直接跟ActivityManagerService交互,而是通过其留在app进程中的代理ActivityManagerProxy来与ActivityManagerService通信。
2.ams调用app进程中用到的类UML图
其中,ApplicationThreadProxy是普通app进程放在ActivityManagerService所在的system_server进程的代理对象,ActivityManagerService也不会直接与app进程交互,而是通过 其留在ActivityManagerService进程的代理对象ApplicationThreadProxy来与应用进程通信。
三 先看app进程调用ams过程的代码
整个跳转逻辑大概可以分拆为以下几个步骤:
- Activity#startActivity
- Activity#startActivityForResult
- Instrumentation#execStartActivity
- ActivityManagerNative#getDefault().startActivity
- ActivityManagerProxy#startActivity
- ActivityMangerService#startActivity
- ActivityMangerService#startActivityAsUser
- ActivityStackSupervisor#startActivityMayWait
- ActivityStackSupervisorr#startActivityLocked
- ActivityStackSupervisorr#startActivityUncheckedLocked
- ActivityStack#startActivityLocked
- ActivityStackSupervisor#resumeTopActivitiesLocked
- ActivityStack#resumeTopActivityLocked
- ActivityStack#resumeTopActivityInnerLocked
- ActivityStackSupervisor#startSpecificActivityLocked
- ActivityManagerService#startProcessLocked
- Process#start
Activity#startActivity
调用startActivity(Intent intent)打开一个Activity,或者在Launcher上点击应用图标,最终都会调用Activity#startActivity()接口:
/**
* Same as {@link #startActivity(Intent, Bundle)} with no options
* specified.
*
* @param intent The intent to start.
*
* @throws android.content.ActivityNotFoundException
*
* @see {@link #startActivity(Intent, Bundle)}
* @see #startActivityForResult
*/
@Override
public void startActivity(Intent intent) {
this.startActivity(intent, null);
}
Activity#startActivityForResult
最终会走到:
public void startActivityForResult(Intent intent, int requestCode, @Nullable Bundle options) {
//只要没有用到ActivityGroup,mParent就为空
if (mParent == null) {
Instrumentation.ActivityResult ar =
mInstrumentation.execStartActivity(
this, mMainThread.getApplicationThread(), mToken, this,
intent, requestCode, options);
if (ar != null) {
mMainThread.sendActivityResult(
mToken, mEmbeddedID, requestCode, ar.getResultCode(),
ar.getResultData());
}
if (requestCode >= 0) {
// If this start is requesting a result, we can avoid making
// the activity visible until the result is received. Setting
// this code during onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) or onResume() will keep the
// activity hidden during this time, to avoid flickering.
// This can only be done when a result is requested because
// that guarantees we will get information back when the
// activity is finished, no matter what happens to it.
mStartedActivity = true;
}
cancelInputsAndStartExitTransition(options);
// TODO Consider clearing/flushing other event sources and events for child windows.
} else {
if (options != null) {
mParent.startActivityFromChild(this, intent, requestCode, options);
} else {
// Note we want to go through this method for compatibility with
// existing applications that may have overridden it.
mParent.startActivityFromChild(this, intent, requestCode);
}
}
}
因为当前未使用ActivityGroup,所以mParent == null,会走下面这个逻辑:
Instrumentation.ActivityResult ar =
mInstrumentation.execStartActivity(
this, mMainThread.getApplicationThread(), mToken, this,
intent, requestCode, options);
if (ar != null) {
mMainThread.sendActivityResult(
mToken, mEmbeddedID, requestCode, ar.getResultCode(),
ar.getResultData());
}
看到这里,出现了一个新类:Instrumentation,他是干什么的呢?
Instrumentation#execStartActivity
它是一个Activity的辅助类,躲在界面后面,帮助Activity实现真正的业务逻辑,例如上面的startActivity()跳来跳去,最终还是来到了Instrumentation的execStartActivity()方法,并且执行完execStartActivity方法之后,还接着调用了sendActivityResult方法(ActivityThread类的方法,我们后面会介绍),从而会触发onActivityResult()接口的回调。
我们继续跟踪到Instrumentation#execStartActivity()内部:
public ActivityResult execStartActivity(
Context who, IBinder contextThread, IBinder token, Activity target,
Intent intent, int requestCode, Bundle options) {
IApplicationThread whoThread = (IApplicationThread) contextThread;
Uri referrer = target != null ? target.onProvideReferrer() : null;
if (referrer != null) {
intent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_REFERRER, referrer);
}
//1.第一步,迭代Activity,判断是否合法
if (mActivityMonitors != null) {
synchronized (mSync) {
final int N = mActivityMonitors.size();
for (int i=0; i<N; i++) {
final ActivityMonitor am = mActivityMonitors.get(i);
if (am.match(who, null, intent)) {
am.mHits++;
if (am.isBlocking()) {
return requestCode >= 0 ? am.getResult() : null;
}
break;
}
}
}
}
try {
intent.migrateExtraStreamToClipData();
intent.prepareToLeaveProcess();
//2.调用ams,真正的去startActivity
int result = ActivityManagerNative.getDefault()
.startActivity(whoThread, who.getBasePackageName(), intent,
intent.resolveTypeIfNeeded(who.getContentResolver()),
token, target != null ? target.mEmbeddedID : null,
requestCode, 0, null, options);
//3.根据返回值抛异常
checkStartActivityResult(result, intent);
} catch (RemoteException e) {
throw new RuntimeException("Failure from system", e);
}
return null;
}
这个方法做了3件事:
- 遍历mActivityMonitors,看目标Activity是否存在,如果不存在直接退出
- 调用ActivityManagerNative.getDefault() 的startActivity()
- 通过checkStartActivityResult()来检测操作结果
第1、3两个步骤就不细说了,我们主要看ActivityManagerNative.getDefault()的startActivity()方法。
ActivityManagerNative#getDefault().startActivity
先看看ActivityManagerNative.getDefault()是个什么鬼吧:
static public IActivityManager getDefault() {
return gDefault.get();
}
返回的是gDefault.get(),那么gDefault又是个什么呢:
private static final Singleton<IActivityManager> gDefault = new Singleton<IActivityManager>() {
protected IActivityManager create() {
IBinder b = ServiceManager.getService("activity");
if (false) {
Log.v("ActivityManager", "default service binder = " + b);
}
IActivityManager am = asInterface(b);
if (false) {
Log.v("ActivityManager", "default service = " + am);
}
return am;
}
};
原来,是从ServiceManager中拿到一个Service的IBinder,它在ServiceManager中,key值为"activity",也就是传说中ams的IBinder,并且用asInterface()将其转换了一下,通过前面那篇介绍AIDL原理的博文,我们知道这个asInterface()内部其实就是做一个判断,当你调用的接口和调用者属于同一个进程的时候,就当做普通引用来使用接口,当被调用者和调用者不属于同一个进程的时候,就会转化成远程代理。
ActivityManagerProxy#startActivity
我们打开asInterface的代码,果然是这样的:
static public IActivityManager asInterface(IBinder obj) {
if (obj == null) {
return null;
}
//queryLocalInterface()就是通过接口描述来查询它是否一个本地接口
IActivityManager in =
(IActivityManager)obj.queryLocalInterface(descriptor);
if (in != null) {
return in;
}
return new ActivityManagerProxy(obj);
}
写到这里,我再总结一下ActivityManagerNative.getDefault()是个什么?它就是身处system_server进程的ActivityManagerService位于app进程的一个代理,名为:ActivityManagerProxy。
在饶了这么多路之后,我们终于看懂了,startActivity()的过程实际上最后是调用ActivityManagerProxy的startActivity()方法,ActivityManagerProxy的startActivity()方法最终还是通过Binder调用,调用到ActivityMangerService的startActivity()方法中。
好吧,我们再去ActivityMangerService的startActivity()方法中去吧。
ActivityMangerService#startActivity
ActivityMangerService#startActivity:
@Override
public final int startActivity(IApplicationThread caller, String callingPackage,
Intent intent, String resolvedType, IBinder resultTo, String resultWho, int requestCode,
int startFlags, ProfilerInfo profilerInfo, Bundle options) {
return startActivityAsUser(caller, callingPackage, intent, resolvedType, resultTo,
resultWho, requestCode, startFlags, profilerInfo, options,
UserHandle.getCallingUserId());
}
ActivityMangerService#startActivityAsUser
ActivityMangerService#startActivityAsUser:
@Override
public final int startActivityAsUser(IApplicationThread caller, String callingPackage,
Intent intent, String resolvedType, IBinder resultTo, String resultWho, int requestCode,
int startFlags, ProfilerInfo profilerInfo, Bundle options, int userId) {
enforceNotIsolatedCaller("startActivity");
userId = handleIncomingUser(Binder.getCallingPid(), Binder.getCallingUid(), userId,
false, ALLOW_FULL_ONLY, "startActivity", null);
// TODO: Switch to user app stacks here.
return mStackSupervisor.startActivityMayWait(caller, -1, callingPackage, intent,
resolvedType, null, null, resultTo, resultWho, requestCode, startFlags,
profilerInfo, null, null, options, false, userId, null, null);
}
ActivityMangerService#startActivityAsUser中会走到ActivityStackSupervisor#startActivityMayWait中,ActivityStackSupervisor又是什么鬼?
通过类名字就能看出来,他是负责管理Activity栈的一个管理类。

这个方法比较重要的逻辑在这里:
ActivityStack lastStack = mStackSupervisor.getLastStack();
//这个逻辑说明当前APP进程已经被启动过
if (next.app != null && next.app.thread != null) {
if (DEBUG_SWITCH) Slog.v(TAG_SWITCH, "Resume running: " + next);
// This activity is now becoming visible.
mWindowManager.setAppVisibility(next.appToken, true);
...
}
else{
...
mStackSupervisor.startSpecificActivityLocked(next, true, true);
}
next.app.thread != null说明当前进程的ActivityThread已经被启动了,不需要zygote进程再重新fork进程出来,只需要拿到栈顶,展现在用户面前。 否则,就要调用到StackSupervisor.startSpecificActivityLocked
ActivityStackSupervisor#startSpecificActivityLocked
mStackSupervisor#startSpecificActivityLocked:
void startSpecificActivityLocked(ActivityRecord r,
boolean andResume, boolean checkConfig) {
// Is this activity's application already running?
ProcessRecord app = mService.getProcessRecordLocked(r.processName,
r.info.applicationInfo.uid, true);
r.task.stack.setLaunchTime(r);
if (app != null && app.thread != null) {
try {
if ((r.info.flags&ActivityInfo.FLAG_MULTIPROCESS) == 0
|| !"android".equals(r.info.packageName)) {
// Don't add this if it is a platform component that is marked
// to run in multiple processes, because this is actually
// part of the framework so doesn't make sense to track as a
// separate apk in the process.
app.addPackage(r.info.packageName, r.info.applicationInfo.versionCode,
mService.mProcessStats);
}
realStartActivityLocked(r, app, andResume, checkConfig);
return;
} catch (RemoteException e) {
Slog.w(TAG, "Exception when starting activity "
+ r.intent.getComponent().flattenToShortString(), e);
}
// If a dead object exception was thrown -- fall through to
// restart the application.
}
mService.startProcessLocked(r.processName, r.info.applicationInfo, true, 0,
"activity", r.intent.getComponent(), false, false, true);
}
从我们上面那个步骤进到这个方法,app.thread必然是null,所以会走到下面这个逻辑中去:
//mService就是ActivityManagerService
mService.startProcessLocked(r.processName, r.info.applicationInfo, true, 0,
"activity", r.intent.getComponent(), false, false, true);

Process#start
这里面会调用到Process#start:
Process.ProcessStartResult startResult = Process.start(entryPoint,
app.processName, uid, uid, gids, debugFlags, mountExternal,
app.info.targetSdkVersion, app.info.seinfo, requiredAbi, instructionSet,
app.info.dataDir, entryPointArgs);
从类名、方法名就能看出,这是用来启动进程的。
看一看Process#start的代码,果然调用了startViaZygote(),通过Zygote fork了一个新的进程出来:
public static final ProcessStartResult start(final String processClass,
final String niceName,
int uid, int gid, int[] gids,
int debugFlags, int mountExternal,
int targetSdkVersion,
String seInfo,
String abi,
String instructionSet,
String appDataDir,
String[] zygoteArgs) {
try {
return startViaZygote(processClass, niceName, uid, gid, gids,
debugFlags, mountExternal, targetSdkVersion, seInfo,
abi, instructionSet, appDataDir, zygoteArgs);
} catch (ZygoteStartFailedEx ex) {
Log.e(LOG_TAG,
"Starting VM process through Zygote failed");
throw new RuntimeException(
"Starting VM process through Zygote failed", ex);
}
}
写到这里,目标app进程就已经启动起来了(如果早就被启动过了就会回到栈顶),接下来就是执行目标app进程ActivityThread中main()方法,开启主线程消息循环,同时将app进程通AMS绑定在一起了,下一篇blog将分析这部分代码。
