Github for Windows with Gitlab community edition

Having searched here on Stack Overflow and found this question , I now understand that Github for Windows will work with Gitlab. I'm using the Community edition of Gitlab on a local server and I can't get it to work, so just to expand upon the question I've linked above, can anyone confirm if it will work with the community edition of Gitlab? I've tried to connect with my email and password, with the URL set to the base URL of the installation ( https://git.example.com/ ), am I perhaps just using the wrong URL for this? I'm finding documentation for Github for Windows is somewhat lacking. What

Prevent GitHub for Windows from adding emoticons to my initial commit message

I'm new to git, and to GitHub. I'm using the GitHub for Windows program on Windows 7 64-bit. What I dislike is that when I create a new local repository, the initial change where the .gitattributes file is added is given a commit message containing an emoticon (seemingly chosen at random). Here is a screencap of this problem in action: http://i.stack.imgur.com/sXVkv.gif The emoticon in the above example was "confetti ball": http://i.stack.imgur.com/ePYdv.png How do I prevent this emoticon? Or at least, how do I prevent the inital change from being automatically committed so that I have the

What are these icons by my commit

I recently began working on project and I committed and pushed it using Github for Windows. But if you look at the .gitignore , there is a :camel: and a :boom: icon next to the commit. Are these of any purpose? They seemed to have been auto generated by Github for Windows. How can I add these icons to my own commits, and what other icons are there? EDIT Messing around github, I discovered that these are emoji's ( http://www.emoji-cheat-sheet.com/ ), and that they are supported in Github's markdown syntax. Still, I wonder why Github for Windows put these in the .gitignore commit. This could

Line endings with cygwin and Github for Windows

问题 I'm want to be able to work on my git projects using both the Github for Windows application as well as git in the command line using Cygwin (on Windows). But I keep on getting problems with the line endings when I switch from one to the other. If with the command line tool the repo has no changes, it will want to modify all the files with the Github app. If I do the changes with the Github app it will then again want to change it with the command line tool. After a fair amount of testing I

My Github for windows is showing some files to have changes, but when I compare the files they are the same! I have a screenshot here: I can actually edit these files and then the error goes away, but then it comes back with a new file at random... Any ideas? I had the same problem. I resolved executing from console the following command: git config core.filemode false 来源: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/17319065/github-showing-empty-changes-for-new-commits

GITHUB Conflict Resolving

问题 I am a newbie for github and started using GITHUB for WINDOWS chosen private repositories and shared the same with my colleagues. Now we are experiencing a problem, not sure how to solve it. We tried google and no use. Myself and a colleague worked on a same file at a same time, he committed before me . I like to know the changes he made and I want to merge his change with my local file and finally want to commit my version. Is it possible with GITHUB using GITHUB for windows? I have done the

Used GitHub GUI to COMMIT&SYNC and everything disappeared

So in the GitHubGUI, as usual, I did my changes and then clicked Commit&Sync and for a brief moment the "Merge Conflics" dialog popped up and then everything disappeared and I synced the newest changes with the remote repo. Everything I did disappeared. This has happened before after I kept clicking commit&sync after merge errors I tried to fix, but this time literally everything just disappeared like I would have just done a pull command and git wouldn't catch my commit. Is there some way I can recover these files that were committed? The GUI commits them first and then pushes them. So I

Where are the pull/push commands in GitHub for Windows client?

问题 I've been using GitHub for Mac for a while and was about to help a colleague install it on Windows. I cannot find any menu or any button to initiate "push" or "pull" as I can on Mac. Only way I see it is to open a shell and execute git pull . But then, what's the point of the UI? What solved my problem? I switched to using SourceTree (http://www.sourcetreeapp.com) instead. It solved all my issues :) 回答1: It's in the top right of the app. For most cases you'll want to hit the sync button which

github for windows crashing several times a day

I newly started working on Github via their native Windows Application, it's quite good however it's crashing so often and the horrible thing is that I lose all the recent changes after it's crashing. All the local files will rollback to the last version of the successful commit or sync. I'm on a 64bit windows 8 machine. Any ideas? The exact error after crash is Couldn't find a HEAD in this repository David I sent an email to GitHub For Windows support. Their answer was this: Hi David, I am sorry for the trouble. I have been able to reproduce this problem, and have filed a report for our
