HIVE is not opening due to “caused by: java.sql.SQLException: Unknown initial character set index '255' received from server”

Question

Hive is not opening for me due to not able to store metadata in MYSQL. It\'s throwing an character encoding issue. I\'m using ubuntu\'s latest version.
