    I have it using ldap and mysql and if it helps you my setting from openfire.xml are:

        <connectionProvider>
        <className>org.jivesoftware.database.DefaultConnectionProvider</className>
      </connectionProvider>

          <driver>com.mysql.jdbc.Driver</driver>
