While reading Programming Principles and Practice using c++ by Bjarne Stroustrup, do i need to use Microsoft Visual Studio?

I am very new to programming. I\'m reading the above book and it says to use Microsoft Visual Studio. Is it necessarily needed? If no, what will I be missing if i don\'t use
