Can't connect to digital ocean LEMP stack MySql via Workbench (or any gui) but CAN connect via terminal mysql cmd

I have tried suggestions in what seems like every post about this topic and none of them have worked for me, so I\'m posting my own in case anyone spots anything that I miss
