Is there a function for drawing a caption box underneath a figure/graph using matplotlib? I have searched google and haven\'t found any such function.
Use pyplot.text
. Here is some sample code:
from matplotlib import pyplot as plt
import numpy as np
x = np.arange(0,3,.25)
y = np.sin(x)
txt = '''

fig.text(.1,.1,txt)
plt.show()
It produces this:
If you want automatic word-wrapping, have a look at this post.
I'm not sure I can help you get it full-justified.
You can use the legend
function (pylab.legend
). If you want it outside the axes, you can pass to it a specific location (loc
keyword argument).
Edit: The legend function takes a title
argument, which might help getting what you want. However, for a caption without any legend, Paul's answer is more suited.
