Easiest way to alternate row colors in PHP/HTML?

In PHP I am using this code:

function alternate($sEven = "even", $sOdd = "odd")
{
    static $iCount;
    return ($iCount++ & 1) ? $sOdd :$sEven;
}

for($i = 0; $i< 5; $i++)
echo alternate();
