Linked List implementation. Sometimes pointer.val does contain a values yet throws “TypeError: Cannot read property 'val' of null”

Question

I\'m hitting while (pointer.val) { and getting this in my console. as you can see pointer.val is pointing to 8, the value of the head not, so it is not null. Hel
