edit_text.setInputType(InputType.TYPE_CLASS_NUMBER | InputType.TYPE_NUMBER_FLAG_SIGNED);

if we need to use programmatically..

You are just missing this in your EditText,

android:inputType="numberDecimal|numberSigned"
