How many rows do you have?

Try this:

int idx = Convert.ToInt32(e.CommandArgument);

if (idx < gvResTasks.Rows.Count)
{
    GridViewRow gr = gvResTasks.Rows[idx];
}

Also, can you provide the btnUpdate ASPX code?
