I think best way is to use string stream. simple and quick !!!

    std::ifstream inFile;
    inFile.open("inFileName"); //open the input file

    std::stringstream strStream;
    strStream << inFile.rdbuf(); //read the file
    std::string str = strStream.str(); //str holds the content of the file
