How do I get current date/time on the Windows command line in a suitable format for usage in a file/folder name?

Update: Now that it\'s 2016 I\'d use PowerShell for this unless there\'s a really compelling backwards-compatible reason for it, particularly because of the regional setting

With Windows 7, this code works for me:

    SET DATE=%date%
    SET YEAR=%DATE:~0,4%
    SET MONTH=%DATE:~5,2%
    SET DAY=%DATE:~8,2%
    ECHO %YEAR%
    ECHO %MONTH%
    ECHO %DAY%

    SET DATE_FRM=%YEAR%-%MONTH%-%DAY%
    ECHO %DATE_FRM%
