Strip HTML from Text JavaScript

Is there an easy way to take a string of html in JavaScript and strip out the html?

Below code allows you to retain some html tags while stripping all others

function strip_tags(input, allowed) {

  allowed = (((allowed || '') + '')
    .toLowerCase()

    .join(''); // making sure the allowed arg is a string containing only tags in lowercase ()
