How to check visibility of software keyboard in Android?

I need to do a very simple thing - find out if the software keyboard is shown. Is this possible in Android?

activityRootView.getViewTreeObserver().addOnGlobalLayoutListener(new ViewTreeObserver.OnGlobalLayoutListener() {

    public void onGlobalLayout() {
        Rect r = new Rect();

        activityRootView.getWindowVisibleDisplayFrame(r);

        int heightDiff = activityRootView.getRootView().getHeight() - (r.bottom - r.top);
